Lynn Millar

Uptown, a watercolor by Lynn Millar

I have been painting professionally in watercolor for over 30 years. I have had paintings juried into many shows. Some as far west as Kansas and as far east as New York City. Besides watercolor, I also enjoy working in acrylic, pastel and casein.

My work has been included in The Annual Pennsylvania Watercolor Society show, Baltimore Watercolor Society show and the Philadelphia Water Color Society show. I have also been juried into many other shows including national competitions at the GoggleWorks, Banana Factory, Ambre Studio and more where I have won multiple placings including 1st place.

I was a juried member at Gallery 20, West Reading and a signature member of Baltimore Watercolor Society and Philadelphia Watercolor Society.

My art is a constant exploration of my environment by color, design, texture and composition. I enjoy abstract painting as well as realism.

When I paint in watercolors I like to let the medium do the work. I sometimes complete the painting with little or no brush work on my “Action Abstract” and Forest Floor” series. I try to control the paint with wetness, paper resists and just about anything I can find that can affect the paint.

The other mediums I use: acrylic, specifically “Absolute Matte” from Atelier, pastel and casein allow me to shift gears in my creative process. I enjoy switching to these opaque mediums as a break from the kind of planning and control I need to be successful with watercolor.
